Source: Amazon Book Buying Spree(it was only like 3 bucks new. I could not pass it up! (plus I already had book 2, so I needed to read the 1st!)
Format: Paperback
Pagecount: 480
Publication Date: May 25th 2010
My Rating: 4/5
Summary: At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity. Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead. But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu. As if starting high school isn't hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?
This book was great, the star was only subtracted because I felt the story was a bit… rushed, as though the author somehow expected the reader to know more than we(at least I) did. It almost seems impossible to rush a 500 page book, haha, this book is HUGE. Not the biggest book, but it is quite a bit intimidating.
One aspect of the book I particularly loved was Nick and his humor- Nick Gautier and his sarcastic humorous wit made a great narrator throughout the most outlandish story, somehow making it seem almost possible!
One other thing:I have books 2 and 3 on my shelf, even though I finished this book months ago, I still haven’t picked them up- they just aren’t much enticing, so I think it would be best to buy book 1, but not book 2, since book 2(I skimmed through the first chapter) doesn’t seem as enthralling, but if you need more Nick, then go ahead and get book 2, because it’s much the same, if not a large bit unrealistic.
